The Pearl · leg two of three

The AI Innovation Studio, in the Welcome Center.

Pearl the tool has a front door on the web. The Pearl has one on campus — a working lab in the Welcome Center, one of the first rooms a visitor sees, where the University's AI work happens in the open rather than behind a badge reader.

The wood and stone Saint Joseph's already has, working alongside a modern lab. It runs on a schedule — sessions, workshops, and connections both across Saint Joseph's and out to partners beyond it. At the entrance, one small light — not a sign, a mark — carries the same layered pattern that identifies Pearl online.

Where it is

The Welcome Center — deliberately on the visitor path, not tucked into a basement. Prospective families walk past the work.

What's in it

Workstations for the build team, a long communal table for sessions and critique, and room to stand around a screen together.

Who's in it

Students, faculty, and staff doing the work, alongside partners from beyond Saint Joseph's. The room is the argument: this is people, not software.

Studio signage (draft concept)

One mark at the door, the same mark on the screen.

The article is load-bearing. The Pearl is a place, unmistakably full of people; Pearl, with no article, is the instrument.

The room gives the tool humanity by association, and the tool gives the room currency — but only when the system reads as one deliberate architecture.

Mood board

Warm, human, unmistakably a place people work — not a data center.

Direction for photography and texture: natural light, hands and materials, mentorship in small rooms. No server racks, no blue-glow screens, no lone silhouettes against monitors.
